San Carlos Middle School Gila County Science fair winners!

San Carlos Middle School Bags 6 Golds at Regional Science Fair in Gila County
San Carlos Middle School is celebrating an impressive accomplishment after earning six gold medals at the Gila County Regional Science Fair earlier this week. The event, held on March 6, 2025, brought together students from across the region to present their groundbreaking scientific projects. Among the participants, San Carlos Middle School stood out, capturing the attention of judges with their exceptional presentations.
The school's success is a clear reflection of the hard work and dedication shown by both the students and their mentors. Six outstanding projects were awarded gold medals in their respective categories, helping the school secure top positions in a highly competitive event filled with talented young scientists.
Principal Korrine Bullock expressed her pride in the students' achievements in an email, emphasizing that the recognition was about more than just winning. "This is about fostering a passion for learning and encouraging new ideas," she said. "Our students' commitment to their projects was evident, and it truly paid off."
The winning projects in the Junior High category encompassed a diverse range of scientific disciplines. In the field of Cellular and Molecular Biology, Amaya Guzman, Aniyah Wilson, and Elleana Patterson presented their research on the "Potential of Cull Watermelon as an Alternative Biofuel." In the area of Medicine and Health Science, Samirah Aliak and Mykhal Patten explored the "Yield Efficiency of Diffusion and Steaming Methods for Extracting Essential Oil from Orange Rind," defending their findings with great expertise.
A standout project in Behavioral Science, “The Impact of Note-Taking on Student Retention,” was presented by Angelina Nosie and Mykhal Patten, who answered questions with confidence and insight. In Engineering, the team of Matt Amparo, Nathaniel Kenton, and Cloud Stevens created an “Environmental Robot Model to Improve the Cleanliness and Sustainability of Residential Yards.” For Plant Science, Desiree Taylor, Timika Kenton, and Selina Yazzie conducted a “Feasibility Study on Converting Ground Coffee into Organic Fertilizer.” In the field of Chemistry, Zyra Bearheart, Aurella Stevens, and Kaybran Jones developed a project on “Electrical Current Transmission Capacity as a Test for Water Purity.”
Each of these students demonstrated not only a solid grasp of scientific principles but also a creative and practical approach to solving real-world problems. Their success was made possible through the consistent guidance and mentorship of their dedicated coaches, Ms. Maydafe Clark and Mr. Jemuel Galay, who provided invaluable support throughout the process.
Looking ahead, the students are preparing to represent San Carlos Middle School and Gila County at the state level competition. Both teachers and parents are eager to see the students' continued success. It highlights the importance of promoting science education and inspiring students to push the limits of their creativity and innovation.
